Some Parliament Members were rushed to hospital following the scuffle near the Parliament premises on Thursday.

Officers of Maldives Police Service (MPS) had barred MPs when they had attempted to enter Parliament premises at around 1pm. They were stopped near Allora corner, with Police physically barring them. Some of the MPs were pushed to the ground.

Thinadhoo South Constituency MP Abdullah Ahmed and Thoddoo Constituency MP Ibrahim Hassan where rushed to ADK Hospital for treatment.

In addition to Parliamentarians, journalists were also barred from the area; RaajjeTV’s Miuvaan Mohamed was detained, and released later on.

As per the Parliament laws, sessions for this year should begin in the first week of February. However, the Parliament is yet to announce a date for the first session for the year.
