EU delegation to arrive in Maldives today
The four-member delegation will be in the Maldives for two days

A delegation from the European Union (EU) Parliament is to arrive in the Maldives on an official visit on Sunday.
The European Parliament's Delegation for Relations with South Asia's visit comes less than a month after the parliament passed a resolution against Maldives, with some MEPs calling to impose targeted sanctions on senior government officials.
The Maldivian government rejected the resolution adopted by the European Parliament, saying that it was "highly motivated by one-sided political rhetoric and contains inaccuracies, contradictions, misrepresentations and baseless allegations".
The four-member delegation will be in the Maldives for two days, before heading off to Sri Lanka. They are expected to meet with officials from the ruling party, opposition, as well as journalists and members of the civil society.
A European Parliament delegation met on October 19th in Brussels, Belgium, where they held discussions on the situation in Maldives.
The same day, exiled former President Mohamed Nasheed, sentenced to 13 years in prison over terror, met with an EU delegation in Sri Lanka. Nasheed and team briefed them on the current situation in Maldives, as well as the prospects for a free a fair presidential election next year.
