Haalu Kihineh?: Lack of access to medicine remains the primary concern for residents of Fehendhoo and Goidhoo

Residents of B. Fehendhoo and Goidhoo have expressed deep concern over persistent difficulties in accessing essential medicines and the stagnation of development projects in their islands.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Haalu Kihineh?" program, a resident of Fehendhoo shared that pharmacies are only able to provide a small fraction of the medications prescribed. The resident further noted that there have been numerous instances where essential medicines were unavailable not only within the atoll but also in the capital, Male'.

He also expressed concern over the skyrocketing prices of goods and the significant increase in electricity bills.

In the past, an egg could be purchased for 1.50 or 2.00 Rufiyaa, but those days are gone. Everything has become more expensive; it is not just one or two items. Where we used to spend roughly 2,000 Rufiyaa a month on groceries, that bill has now climbed to 4,000 or even 5,000 Rufiyaa. Half of my entire salary now goes directly to the grocery store.

Furthermore, the residents of Fehendhoo have expressed deep concern over the stalled progress of the water and sewerage project initiated during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration. One resident noted that the current situation is so dire that they are forced to clean the sewerage junctions manually once every month.

Residents of Goidhoo have also reported significant difficulties in accessing essential medication. One resident, who had undergone spinal surgery, stated that a critical injection required for their treatment has been unavailable even in Male' since President Muizzu took office. The individual further noted that when they applied for Aasandha coverage to source the medication from abroad, the scheme's administrators claimed the drug was available locally. However, the dosage available in Male' was incorrect. Despite resubmitting the application and being told the medication would arrive within a month, the resident confirmed that more than a month has passed without receiving the necessary treatment.

I have not seen Nasir's administration, nor do I recall it, but among all the leaders who have followed since, I have never seen anyone who lies as much or steals as blatantly as this. We have ended up with a leader who is incapable of telling the truth. Even if we do not document it, this is a thief whose actions are so obvious they are practically bursting through the seams.

Furthermore, a resident of Goidhoo expressed concerns regarding the operations of the island's powerhouse. He noted that the fuel required for the engines is currently being stored in black plastic drums.

Residents from both islands emphasized that the current issues—including stalled projects, the rising cost of living, and the shortage of essential medicines—can only be resolved by changing the current administration.
