A woman has passed away while receiving treatment at a health center after experiencing breathing difficulties during a swimming class in V. Fulidhoo.
According to the police, the incident occurred at approximately 16:30 on Sunday, September 22, 2026. It took place during a water safety session organized jointly by the Fulidhoo Police Station and Vaavu Atoll School for students, teachers, and parents.
During the event's "water break," an individual heading ashore reported experiencing breathing difficulties and was immediately transported to the Fulidhoo Health Center for emergency treatment.
According to the police, the individual passed away at approximately 6:14 p.m. that evening while receiving treatment at the health center. The deceased has been identified as a 39-year-old Maldivian woman.
The body of the deceased was transported to Male' for further medical examination. Following tests conducted at IGM Hospital, the remains were handed over to the family late last night.
Police are currently conducting further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
