The State Trading Organization (STO) has issued a 90-day notice for the evacuation of the Harbor Food Court area in southwest Male', citing the need to clear the land for a new development project.
In an official notice sent to food court operators, STO stated that under Clause 14 (a) of the lease agreement signed on October 15, 2022, tenants are required to vacate the premises within three months of receiving the notice. The document further noted that the agreement would be terminated once the units are handed back to STO within this period.
Furthermore, STO has stated that details regarding the settlement of any outstanding rent or maintenance fees owed by businesses will be provided before the notice period expires.
Developed by the State Trading Organization (STO) with an investment of MVR 32 million, this food court features 26 units of varying sizes. The project was part of a broader initiative to modernize the Male' South Harbor area, transforming its previous state into a contemporary urban space. The government officially mandated STO to undertake the redevelopment of the harbor area on January 13, 2016.
The project was fully completed and operations commenced in the area during May 2018. The facility was officially inaugurated later that year on July 23.
Authorities have ordered the clearance of this area for a new development project, an initiative aimed at enhancing Male' urban environment and providing modern services to the public.
