Maldives grants visa-free entry for citizens of Ghana

However, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clarified that individuals traveling for purposes such as employment or education are still required to obtain the necessary permits before their arrival.

Following the ratification and implementation of visa waiver agreements between Ghana, the Maldives, Zambia, and Antigua and Barbuda, Ghanaian passport holders can now travel to these three countries without a prior entry visa.
In a public announcement issued on September 8, 2026, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the new visa facilitation policy will grant travel concessions to holders of Ghanaian ordinary, service, and diplomatic passports.
Under these agreements, citizens of Ghana will be permitted to enter the Maldives and Zambia without a visa for a maximum stay of 30 days. Furthermore, Ghanaian passport holders traveling to Antigua and Barbuda will be eligible for visa-free entry for a period of up to 90 days.
The Ministry reminded travelers that while visa-free entry may be available, they are not exempt from complying with the immigration regulations and entry requirements of their destination countries.
According to the Ministry, Ghanaian passport holders must possess a valid passport and all other necessary documentation required by relevant authorities when traveling. Furthermore, travelers are strictly prohibited from overstaying the period authorized under the visa waiver agreement.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that individuals traveling for employment, education, relocation, or any activity requiring specific authorization must obtain the necessary permits from the relevant authorities in advance.
Travelers are advised to verify the latest entry requirements, health protocols, and other potential regulatory changes with the relevant authorities or the nearest embassy or high commission of their destination country prior to departure.
According to Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these visa facilitation arrangements are part of an ongoing effort to ease travel for Ghanaian citizens and further strengthen diplomatic ties with partner nations.
