Expressing grave concerns over the country’s economic trajectory and rising corruption, Yameen emphasized that political leaders must now take a stand to rectify the nation's deteriorating situation.

Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is the first head of state to completely disregard and violate the Constitution since its ratification in 2008.
Speaking at the People's National Front (PNF) rally titled "Fehi Signal" on Thursday night, former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom delivered a scathing critique of the current administration's policies and the deteriorating state of state institutions.
Former President Yameen stated that the President is conducting himself in the manner of an absolute monarch. However, he noted that even a king cannot act solely according to his own whims, adding that the public is now demanding that the President's powers be curtailed.
Reflecting on economic issues, President Yameen stated that the Maldives has seen its highest influx of US dollars over the past three years under the current administration. However, he noted that if these funds are spent on wasteful projects such as glass tunnels instead of being utilized for the benefit of the citizens, the wealth would ultimately be squandered.
Former President Yameen stated that while numerous corruption allegations are surfacing within the current administration, there are no longer any avenues to investigate these matters. He alleged that the independence of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has been compromised by ensuring its president is a direct appointee of the President. Yameen further emphasized that when matters reach such a state, political figures must stand up for the sake of the nation.
Speaking on the role of state institutions, Yameen stated that while these bodies exist, they have now become incompetent. He noted that there is no visible progress in the work carried out by these institutions, further describing the current situation in the Maldives as the reign of a complete dictator.
Former President Yameen stated that despite the current political disillusionment, it is imperative to take action to hold the government accountable at a time when state institutions are failing and President Muizzu is consolidating all powers within his office.
