Wind knocks down flags planted to mark Hulhudheli reclamation site ahead of council elections

Despite the project being a key pledge made by President Muizzu ahead of the parliamentary elections, the council expressed deep concern over the lack of physical progress on the site.

The President of the Hulhudheli Island Council, Ahmed Nasru, has stated that flags erected to demarcate the land reclamation area ahead of the local council elections have since been blown down by the wind.
In an interview with RaajjeTV, Nasru stated that only a single excavator and a pickup truck were brought in for the project, and that work was carried out for just one night. He further noted that the excavator brought to the site is currently broken down.
Flags were put up across the island to coincide with the local council elections, but they have since fallen and been swept away. Nasru stated that the employees' only responsibility was to take a photograph that included the excavator. He further noted that no actual work had been assigned to the staff.
The Hulhudheli land reclamation project was a pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu ahead of the parliamentary elections. At the time, President Muizzu stated that physical work on the project is scheduled to commence in July 2026.
