Police seek public assistance in identifying illegal foreign currency exchange operations

The Maldives Police Service has urged the public to report individuals and businesses conducting unauthorized foreign currency exchange operations without a valid license from the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
In a message to the media, the police stated that a special task force has now been established to investigate such cases.
The task force has announced that anyone with information regarding illegal foreign currency transactions can report it to their operations hotline at 9388733. In addition to standard SMS, the public can submit information through various messaging platforms, including Viber, WhatsApp, and Telegram.
Regarding the protection of informants, the police have provided assurances that the identities of those reporting information to this number, as well as the details they provide, will be kept strictly confidential.
Furthermore, the police stated that individuals who provide information in this manner will not be required to participate in any investigative procedures or stages of the case.
