The National Award of Honor has been posthumously conferred upon the late Ihusan Abdul Ghanee of G. Ilaa, in recognition of his invaluable contributions to Maldivian sports, particularly in the field of football coaching and player development.
Ihusan stands as one of the most prominent and successful coaches in the nation's sporting history. Although he first entered the football scene as a talented midfielder for Majeediyya School and Youth Sports Club, Ihusan chose to specialize in coaching from a young age.
Ihusan has played a pivotal role behind some of the most significant achievements in Maldivian football history. He served as the assistant coach during the historic match in 2004, where the Maldives secured a draw against Asian powerhouse South Korea. Furthermore, Ihusan was the primary assistant to the head coach when the Maldives clinched its first-ever SAFF Championship title in 2008. A decade later, when the nation secured its second SAFF Championship trophy, he held the position of Technical Director at the Football Association of Maldives (FAM). At the club level, one of the most notable highlights of his coaching career was his success with Club Eagles, where he introduced a new generation of young talent and led them to victory in the 2016 President's Cup.
The late Ihusan Abdul Ghanee was a dedicated servant of the sport who set a benchmark in scouting and developing talent. He conducted numerous coaching camps across the Maldives, identifying gifted young players from the atolls and bringing them to Male', where he mentored them into football stars. He dedicated his entire life to the advancement of Maldivian football and was steadfast in his commitment to creating opportunities for future generations.
The late Ihusan Abdul Ghanee passed away on March 22, 2025.
