No-confidence motion against Minister Saeed: Time allocated for floor debate and defense

The committee unanimously decided to allocate one hour for parliamentary debate and one hour for the Minister to present his defense against the allegations.

The Parliament has finalized the time allocation for the debate on the no-confidence motion against the Minister of Economic Development, Transport, and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, including the duration granted for the Minister to present his defense.
During Monday's meeting of the Parliament's General Purpose Committee, Ibrahim Didi, the Member of Parliament for South Feydhoo, proposed granting the Minister one hour to present his defense. The MP further proposed allocating an additional hour for members to debate the matter, with the time distributed among political parties in accordance with Article 110(b) of the Constitution.
The committee passed the member's proposal unanimously by all those present at the meeting.
The main opposition party, MDP, has submitted a no-confidence motion against Saeed, backed by the signatures of 13 members.
The motion submitted by the MDP asserts that Minister Saeed has explicitly violated the Constitution in the performance of his cabinet responsibilities as mandated under Article 132. It further alleges that he has neglected his constitutional duty to remain accountable to the People’s Majlis, as required by Article 134. The motion contends that the Minister has engaged in activities prohibited for cabinet members under Article 136 of the Constitution, and as a result, he no longer retains the confidence of the Parliament.
The party has submitted six specific points regarding the matter. Furthermore, the MDP has moved a no-confidence motion against Minister Saeed under Article 101 (a) of the Constitution and Article 229 (a) of the Standing Orders of the People’s Majlis, asserting that he no longer retains the confidence of the parliament.
