Vaikaradhoo Development Projects Stall as Completed Buildings Fall into Disrepair

Highlighting growing public frustration over delays in critical infrastructure projects, including school classrooms and the local powerhouse, the MP called on the government to honor its commitments and expedite the completion of these essential services.

Hussain Ziyad, the Member of Parliament for the Vaikaradhoo constituency, has stated that numerous projects in HDh. Vaikaradhoo have come to a standstill, while completed buildings from other projects are falling into disrepair due to prolonged disuse.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Vaudhunaama" program, MP Ziyad expressed deep concern over the suspension of numerous government projects across his constituency, noting that developmental progress has come to a standstill. MP Ziyad highlighted that work on the skate park—one of the most significant pledges included in Vaikaradhoo’s development manifesto—has also been halted.
MP Ziyad stated that although ground was broken for the skate park project ahead of the council elections, the site was later backfilled and work was halted. He further noted that the project has seen no progress over the past three years.
Furthermore, he noted that although the construction of 12 additional classrooms at the school has resumed under Fenaka Corporation after a period of stagnation, the government has failed to deliver on its promise to commence classes by January of this year.
Furthermore, referring to the condition of the sports field and the youth center, MP Ziyad noted that while no further progress had been made after the turf was laid, work on installing lights has recently commenced. However, the MP highlighted that although the youth center's construction is complete with roofing and plastering finished, the building is now falling into disrepair due to being left unused for an extended period.

Regarding the new powerhouse in Vaikaradhoo, MP Ziyad stated that although the masonry, plastering, and roofing have been completed, the site has now become overgrown with wilderness. He further noted that while the office building of the powerhouse was finished by the end of the MDP administration, the facility remains unopened to this day.
Furthermore, he noted that although the budget includes allocations for the swimming track and the beach area, no practical work has commenced on these projects.
MP Ziyad stated that among the projects initiated by the previous administration, only the ATM installation and the construction of the multi-purpose hall have been successfully completed under the current government. He further noted that while ministers claim work will resume when questioned about stalled projects, there is no visible progress on the island. Consequently, he emphasized that public concern regarding these delays remains exceptionally high.
