An urgent plea to the President: Naalaafushi residents forced to use contaminated water as water and sewerage project stalls | Raajje MV

The M. Naalaafushi Island Council has stated that the island's residents are being forced to use contaminated water due to prolonged delays in the completion of the water and sewerage project. The council issued an urgent plea to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, calling for an immediate solution to the crisis.

In an interview with RaajjeTV, the Naalaafushi Island Council revealed that the island's water and sewerage systems are currently in a dire state.

The council stated that under the previous administration, 80 pipes required for the water system were laid, and some piping for the sewerage network had also been procured. Additionally, several other related works were completed during that period.

The water and sewerage infrastructure is in a dire state. While the previous administration installed 80 pipes required for the water network and procured some of the piping necessary for the sewerage system, along with completing certain other tasks, this remains a critical project that must be addressed.

Highlighting the importance of this undertaking, the Council noted that the work has not progressed adequately even after the change in government.

Furthermore, the council stated that residents are facing significant hardships due to delays in the installation of water pipes, which has left various parts of the island excavated. The council also highlighted that these delays have led to issues such as water contamination.

The council stated that while citizens are required to maintain hygiene for religious and personal purity, they are calling on President Muizzu to establish a system that fulfills these essential needs. With the island's water system in disrepair, residents are facing significant difficulties in accessing clean water, a situation that also poses serious public health risks.

The council has called on the government to expedite the completion of these projects to ensure the provision of clean water and a fully functional sewerage system for the residents.
