Singapore Appoints Non-Resident High Commissioner to the Maldives
Singapore's President has presented the letter of credence to Sitoh Yih Pin, the newly appointed Non-Resident High Commissioner to the Maldives, succeeding Soo Kok Leng who had served in the role since 2020. As a non-resident diplomat, Sitoh will oversee bilateral relations and Maldivian affairs while based in Singapore.

Singapore has appointed Sitoh Yih Pin as its new Non-Resident High Commissioner to the Maldives.
In a statement released on July 21, Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced that President Tharman Shanmugaratnam has presented the letter of credence to Sitho Yee, officially appointing him to the post.
The newly appointed 62-year-old envoy to the Maldives, Sitoh Yih Pin, succeeds Soo Kok Leng, who had held the position since 2020.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Singapore in February 1975, Singapore has not maintained a resident embassy in the Maldives. Instead, diplomatic ties between the two nations have been managed by officials based in Singapore.
Sitoh Yih Pin has served three terms as the Member of Parliament for Potong Pasir SMC, a tenure extending through 2025. In addition to his parliamentary role, he has been a member of the People’s Association Board of Management since 2021 and serves as a non-executive director at China Taiping Insurance Singapore.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from the National University of Singapore in 1987. He began his professional career as an auditor at KPMG.
Non-resident ambassadors are not based in the countries to which they are accredited. However, they will undertake regular official visits to those nations to strengthen bilateral diplomatic ties.
