Shiau’s Murder: Shahil’s three-year sentence appealed once again
Ali Shahil has appealed his convictions for drug possession and the production of child pornography at the High Court, following a three-year prison sentence handed down in connection with the investigation into the murder of Shiaau Mohamed Saeed. While these secondary charges have been finalized, the trial for the primary charge of first-degree murder is currently nearing its conclusion.

Ali Shahil, the prime suspect in the brutal murder of Shiaau Mohamed Saeed inside a Male' apartment, has appealed his convictions at the High Court. The appeal challenges the lower court's ruling, which found him guilty of several charges related to the case.
The defendant had previously filed an appeal in this case. However, the court declined to accept the initial filing due to incomplete documentation. Following this, the appeal has been resubmitted for consideration.
When Shiau was discovered brutally murdered in a ninth-floor apartment at H. Sheereenvilla, young skater Shahil was arrested at the crime scene that night. He is now facing five separate charges in connection with the case.
The charges include intentional homicide, possession of child pornography, and the use of cannabis. Out of respect for the family, the Prosecutor General’s Office has declined to disclose further details regarding the remaining two charges.
He was found guilty of possession of child pornography and cannabis use. Following his conviction, he was sentenced to three years, one month, and six days in prison. It is this conviction and subsequent sentence that he has now appealed.
However, a verdict has yet to be delivered on the primary charge of first-degree murder, as well as the two remaining charges. Those proceedings are also now nearing a conclusion.
The murder of Shiau is the most brutal killing in recent Maldivian history. When her body was discovered, she had been decapitated and her limbs severed.
