Water and sewerage projects under contractor financing cannot be awarded to other parties: MP Shakir
MP Shakir stated that although two and a half years have passed under the current administration, no development projects have been implemented, and officials continue to offer illogical excuses instead of delivering results.

Ahmed Shakir, the Member of Parliament for the Maavah constituency, has stated that water and sewerage projects under the 'Contractor Finance' model cannot be awarded to any other parties.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "TV Talk" program, MP Shakir stated that although President Dr. Muizzu claims to prioritize water and sewerage projects, these initiatives have shown no actual progress.
Highlighting the decision to award the water and sewerage project in L. Hithadhoo to a private firm under a contractor financing model, MP Shakir stated that such an approach is untenable. He emphasized that these projects should instead be entrusted to state-controlled entities, such as the Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).
The current model of contractor-financed projects is no longer a viable approach for establishing essential water and sewerage infrastructure. Such critical services cannot be effectively delivered through that system. For instance, in islands like Kunahandhoo, the project is being managed by MWSC. Therefore, it is imperative that these projects are awarded to entities under full government control to ensure successful implementation.Ahmed Shakir
He further noted that construction materials, such as cement bags and pipes brought to various islands for projects initiated by the previous administration, have been left to deteriorate. He added that President Muizzu’s government is wasting public funds in this manner.
All of these materials were brought in during the previous administration and have since been left to deteriorate. This is the public's money going to waste. You asked why the pipes are in such poor condition; of course they would be ruined after being left out in the sun for three or four years. If they aren't stored in a warehouse, they will naturally degrade and become brittle. Even a person cannot withstand being left out in the sun for that long; if I were left out there, I too would become withered and frail.Ahmed Shakir
MP Shakir stated that even as the government marks two and a half years in power, it has failed to initiate any projects, choosing instead to persist in making nonsensical and illogical claims.
