Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has stated that it was unaware that the fire extinguishing system at the Male’ Grand flats, located on Majeedhee Magu, was out of service.
Residents of the Male’ Grand flats have informed RaajjeMV that the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is severely neglecting the complex. According to the residents, HDC’s failure to adequately maintain the premises has resulted in numerous daily challenges for those living in the flats.
The current state of the building reveals significant structural deterioration, with large cracks visible across the exterior walls and paint peeling away extensively. Furthermore, frequent pipe bursts have led to flooding inside the flats, causing recurring issues for the residents. Tenants report that these conditions have resulted in damage to personal property and created severe disruptions to their daily lives. Additionally, videos circulating publicly show that the fire safety equipment installed throughout the building has fallen into disrepair and is no longer functional.
Residents stated that despite paying regular monthly maintenance fees to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the quality of service they receive is not commensurate with the payments made.
When contacted by RaajjeTV’s "Fashaairu" program regarding the issue, an official from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) stated that they have not yet received any formal reports of such problems at the Male’ Grand flats. However, the official assured that if such an issue exists, they will investigate the matter and work towards resolving it as quickly as possible.
As the Male’ Grand flats house a significant number of residents, the public has characterized the prolonged lack of building maintenance as a serious threat to the safety and security of those living there. Consequently, the families residing in the complex are urgently calling on the relevant authorities to provide a swift and effective solution to these issues.
