Mayor Slams Muththalib for Snubbing Council Meeting: “Acts Above Everyone Else”

Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has criticized Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib after the Minister reportedly refused to meet with the City Council, requesting instead that all communications be conducted in writing.

City Council members recently visited the Ministry to express their frustration, stating that Minister Muththalib has failed to meet with them for over two years despite repeated requests to discuss various important public concerns.

However, despite multiple attempts to meet with the Minister, the meeting has yet to take place. In a written response, the Minister stated that the Mayor has not been cooperating with the government's development projects for Malé. The Minister further alleged that the Mayor has been misrepresenting the facts of their verbal communications and asserted that all future official correspondence must now be conducted in writing.

Expressing his dissatisfaction during a council meeting, Mayor Azim stated that he has not had any verbal or telephonic communication with Mutthalib to date, adding that the Minister does not even answer his calls.

Azim further stated that instead of meeting with elected officials and those mandated by law, Muththalib is attempting to conduct all communications solely through formal correspondence. He added that the public is being misled and subjected to blatant falsehoods.

The Mayor also called on Muththalib to fulfill his official responsibilities. Furthermore, he stated that everyone must work together to ensure all actions are carried out within the bounds of the law.

Furthermore, the Mayor stated that all necessary documentation has already been formally submitted, yet no response has been received to date. He emphasized that the Council remains ready to fulfill its obligations to the citizens and assured that these actions will be carried out within the legal framework.
