2.2 kg of heroin smuggled via air seized
Maldives Customs Service has seized 2.2 kilograms of heroin discovered during a search of parcels at Velana International Airport. The shipment, which arrived in the Maldives on February 27, has an estimated street value of MVR 2.2 million.

Maldives Customs Service has seized 2.2 kilograms of narcotics attempted to be smuggled into the country via air.
The items were seized on February 27 during an inspection of parcels imported into the Maldives via air freight. According to Customs, the narcotics discovered within these parcels weighed a total of 2.2 kilograms.
Photos released by Customs show the substances concealed within paper inside a plastic bag. According to Customs, the seized items, identified as heroin, were intercepted at Velana International Airport.
Customs estimates the street value of these items to exceed MVR 2.2 million. The matter is currently under investigation.
