Public complaints have surfaced today likening the management's approach to a swarm of directionless wasps, alleging that the opening of an eyewear shop at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital (KRH) prioritizes superficial projects over critical systemic reforms. Citizens are taking to social media to voice their frustrations, highlighting acute medicine shortages and the mistreatment of patients traveling from other islands to seek essential healthcare services at the facility.

Shortage of dental anesthesia: "Unavailable in Malé or through STO"

Highlighting the deteriorating state of healthcare services at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, a member of the public revealed that after waiting on a shortlist for over two months for a tooth extraction, they were finally scheduled for an appointment on Sunday, February 22. However, the hospital later contacted them to report that the procedure could not proceed because they had run out of local anesthetic.

"The information shared during today's call was quite remarkable. I was told that tooth extractions cannot be performed because dental anesthetic injections are unavailable. They couldn't even provide an estimated date for when the stock would arrive. The person who called informed me that these supplies are currently unavailable from both Male' and STO," the individual stated, expressing their concern on social media.

While officials celebrate and praise the leadership for opening an optical shop at the region’s main hospital, the reality of a collapsing healthcare system is laid bare by the lack of basic essentials. The facility currently lacks even the local anesthetic required for simple tooth extractions, and there is no pharmacy available to dispense the medications prescribed by its doctors.

A Series of Negligence: Patient’s Condition Deteriorates

Concerns regarding hospital negligence have become most prevalent among individuals traveling from the islands to seek medical care. In a recent case, it has emerged that a patient underwent a cesarean section at Kulhuduffushi Hospital and was subsequently discharged without receiving adequate treatment, despite suffering from numerous health complications following the procedure.
