The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to appoint former High Court Judge Abdul Rauf Ibrahim and sitting Criminal Court Judge Ismail Shafeeu to fill the two vacant positions on the High Court bench.
The vacancies arose following the departure of Judge Mohamed Niyaz and Judge Mohamed Faisal from the High Court.
Judge Mohamed Niyaz, the longest-serving judge on the High Court bench, retired in November. Judge Mohamed Faisal, meanwhile, resigned in December after the Judicial Service Commission initiated an investigation into a matter related to his conduct.
The swearing-in ceremony for the two newly appointed judges was initially scheduled to take place on Tuesday night at 8pm. However, the ceremony has since been postponed, and JSC has is yet to announce a new date for the proceedings.
