The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has decided to hold its Ordinary Congress in March this year.
The decision was finalized during an Executive Committee meeting held on Monday, confirming that the congress will take place on the night of March 7 at Henveiru Meerumaa.
This will be the first Ordinary Congress since Ahmed “Tom” Thoriq, was elected President of FAM.
The association’s most recent major assembly was an Extraordinary Congress held on 26 July 2025, at which Thoriq and the current Executive Committee were formally elected.
The upcoming congress is expected to address core administrative matters, including the review and approval of the association’s annual report and budget, in addition to other essential institutional business.
Since assuming office in July, FAM President Thoriq and his administration have moved to revive Maldivian football. Under their tenure, the national league has resumed, accompanied by a marked increase in football-related activities nationwide.
In September 2025, Thoriq met FIFA President Gianni Infantino to discuss football development, followed by Infantino’s official visit to the Maldives in October. FAM continues to work in close coordination with FIFA on efforts to advance football in the country.
