Housing scheme to distribute 7,500 flats and 15,000 land plots in GMR
The program uses a rent-to-own model for families unable to secure bank financing and includes schemes for distributing flats to Malé residents and land plots to island residents living in Malé

The government has inaugurated the ‘Family Housing’ program under its ‘Housing for All’ policy. The program was officially launched during a ceremony held on Sunday night by Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib and State Minister of Housing Ahmed Nazim Mohamed.
Following the inauguration, Minister Muththalib noted that the program will implement projects under a rent-to-own model designed for families without the financial capacity to secure bank financing for housing.
The ‘Family Housing’ program introduced on Sunday night consists of two schemes: one for distributing flats to residents of Malé City and another for allocating land plots to people from other islands who live in Malé.
The category for Malé residents includes those registered in Malé since birth, those listed in the Malé registry, and those who registered in Malé later. This scheme is accessible to Malé residents who have maintained registration for more than five years.
Among residents from other islands living in Malé, flats will be allocated to individuals who have lived in the city continuously for at least 15 years.
According to the Housing Ministry, land plots for Malé residents will be distributed in the Greater Malé Region and Ras Malé . For residents from other islands living in Malé, land plots will be allocated exclusively in Ras Malé.
With the inauguration of this program, the government has also published guidelines for implementing housing projects, and regulations regarding flat distribution and land allocation schemes have been made public.
