Former Minister of Defence, and former Chairperson of the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Mariya Ahmed Didi, has stated that even if the media control bill is passed, it will not silence the people.

A large number of citizens, including many MDP members, gathered in the region where the People’s Majlis is located, to protest against the controversial media control bill. Speaking to RaajjeMV from the area, Mariya said that even if the main ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) lawmakers support and pass the media control bill, it will not silence the people.

Noting the lack of support for the current administration, Mariya said that this is a tyrannical government, and that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu came to power through deception.

Mariya stated that MDP has never attempted to come to power through lies and deceit, but the current government officials might think so. She said this is because of how they themselves have acted.

Mariya said that they work towards coming to power with promises and calculations, and that political activities are carried out in a planned manner.
