MP for South Galolhu constituency, Meekail Ahmed Naseem, has urged members of the main ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) in the People’s Majlis not to surrender their independent judgment to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Speaking at the People’s Majlis sitting convened on Wednesday, MP Meekail voiced strong opposition to the controversial media control bill and criticized the government’s approach. He stressed that members of parliament should prioritize critical thinking and take responsibility for their decisions, rather than simply following the president’s directives.
Meekail warned against metaphorically “locking their brains away” in the President’s Office and urged lawmakers to resist blindly handing over their decision-making power to President Muizzu.
It’s whenever the president instructs, whatever he instructs, today he's saying to pass the Thalassemia Bill. Tomorrow he's saying no, the bill is not complete. It shouldn't be passed. Honorable Speaker, on both occasions, it's the same close-knit PG group of the PNC. That day they said it was a very comprehensive bill. Today, when the president instructs, they're saying no, the bill is not complete. Honorable Speaker, prioritize thinking. Don't let President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and a small room in the President's Office lock up the minds of all these members, Honorable Speaker. Don't hand them over. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, don't take control of their minds. Prioritize thinking.”
