A man who issued a death threat to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been arrested.
The person arrested in connection with the death threat is Maseeh Moosa, 25, from Thimarafushi island of Thaa atoll.
The police institution revealed that the suspect was arrested on Thursday night under a court order in connection with a case of issuing a death threat to the president on social media.
Further, MPS added that his phone has been confiscated as part of the investigation.
Maseeh was arrested in relation to a post he made on social media platform ‘Facebook’.
The post was a comment on a news article titled “Discussions underway to issue death penalty for drug traffickers”, which featured a photo of President Muizzu. In his comment, Maseeh wrote something to the effect that the first step should be to kill the president.
Police confirmed that Maseeh was taken into custody under a court order within 12 hours of publishing the post.
