Tremors felt in Malé and Hulhumalé
A 6.2 magnitude earthquake near Nicobar Islands caused tremors in GMR

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has reported receiving accounts of tremors being felt in some areas of Malé and Hulhumalé on Tuesday night.
It was reported after an earthquake occurred near the Nicobar Islands of India at 11:41pm Maldives time on Tuesday night. The department publicly announced this information on Tuesday night.
MMS had previously stated that the earthquake, which measured 6.2 on the Richter scale, would not generate a tsunami.
In a statement released Wednesday morning, the department announced having received reports of tremors being felt in some areas of Malé and Hulhumalé in connection with the earthquake.
Further, the department highlighted that the seismometer installed in Kaadedhdhoo island recorded the effects of a tremor at 11:48pm, Maldives time.
In addition to this, MMS has also revealed that the incident is not expected to pose any additional threat to the Maldives.
