Another debt case surfaces involving MP Sinan

A fresh debt case has been filed against MP for North Hithadhoo constituency Mohamed Sinan.

The case concerns MVR 300,000 that MP Sinan borrowed from a private individual and has not repaid, which has been filed at the Hithadhoo Court. The money was borrowed from Ahmed Shihaam of M. Mahek, Malé City, and the case was filed by Shihaam due to non-repayment.

Earlier, MP Sinan, who belongs to the main ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), paid off a debt that had been proven against him on the same day a case was filed in the Supreme Court seeking to declare that he had lost his parliamentary seat.

On February 13, a person named Ghalib Saleem filed a case in the Supreme Court to declare that Sinan had lost his seat because he had not paid a loan to the Islamic Bank as per the court ruling.

The case proven against Sinan involved the non-payment of a loan taken jointly with Ahmed Waheed of S. Hithadhoo, and Mohamed Saleem of from the same island. At a hearing held by the Supreme Court on June 25, Ghalib's side stated that Islamic Bank had filed a case at the Hithadhoo Magistrate Court because Sinan had not paid a MVR 2.5 million loan he had taken with other parties.

In connection with this, Sinan's lawyer stated that although a judgment was made to pay the money, Sinan was unaware of it. He also said that Sinan had now voluntarily paid off the money.

The case number for the newly filed case is 2025/Civ/S2c/178.
