The People's National Congress (PNC) has expanded its membership to over 68,000, though this figure includes fraudulently submitted forms filled out without individuals' knowledge, following President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's directive to establish PNC as the country's largest political party.

As required under Article 28(b) of Law No. 2013/4 or the Political Parties Act, the Elections Commission of Maldives publishes political party membership figures every six months. The latest data covers membership details for nine registered parties.

Membership numbers of political parties are as follows:

  • People's National Congress (PNC) - 68,665
  • Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) - 43,765
  • Jumhooree Party (JP) - 13,456
  • Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) - 9,011
  • Adhaalath Party (AP) - 8,844
  • Maldives National Party (MNP) - 5,836
  • The Democrats - 3,547
  • People's National Front (PNF) - 3,046

Since taking office, the government has been actively involved in expanding PNC’s membership base. However, concerns have emerged over the unauthorized use of personal information to fraudulently register individuals without their knowledge.

Further, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) has decided not to pursue an investigation into the leaked database from the Department of National Registration (DNR). Although the main opposition, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has also filed a complaint concerning the matter, it remains unaddressed.
