The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has opened nominations for its Executive Committee election.
FAM announced the opportunity to contest in the election on Saturday. The deadline for submitting nomination forms is July 6.
Further, candidates will be notified of any incomplete information in their candidacy forms on July 9. The deadline for resubmitting any incomplete information has been set at July 13.
The Electoral Committee will make its final decision on the submitted nomination forms by July 15. The last pre-election meeting will be held on July 16 to determine the order of candidates, and the election is slated for July 26.
According to FAM's announcement, the positions to be elected include the President, one First Vice President, two Vice Presidents, and seven Ordinary Members.
Among the eligibility criteria for FAM election candidates, the applicant must not have any criminal or civil cases pending against them. They must also not have been convicted of such cases by any court of law.
In addition to this, the criteria stipulates that the candidate must not be under any kind of investigation by FIFA, the world football governing body.
Candidates for the FAM election must also submit letters of support from five member clubs of FAM, including two from the First Division.
So far, only former FAM President and current MP for Mahibadhoo constituency Ahmed “Tom” Thoriq has officially announced his candidacy for the FAM election.
