Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has asserted that the 4,000 housing units built under the ‘Gedhoruveryaa’ Scheme during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government are satisfactory and provide good quality housing for the citizens.

Speaking to the media on Thursday at the construction site, Muththalib stated that work on the flats is progressing rapidly and that the quality of construction is commendable. He added that Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) is working efficiently in collaboration with the contractor to ensure smooth project implementation.

Highlighting that the flats will be handed over to the rightful owners as they are completed, Muththalib said that they will start making agreements and begin the handover process in July.

Muththalib announced that the 4,000 flats under construction will be handed over to residents before the end of September this year. He stated that efforts are underway to meet this target, emphasizing that the flats are of high quality and expected to meet citizens' expectations. The minister underscored that the project represents the provision of adequate housing for the public.

The 4,000 housing units are a project that was constructed during the previous government, with all structural work completed. The list of flat recipients was also finalized. However, the current administration initially opposed handing over the flats according to the initial list, claiming to investigate some issues.

As the matter remained unresolved even after a year and a half of the current government's term, and as it was not legally feasible to change, the government faced criticism from many. Consequently, they decided to distribute the flats according to the previous government's list, which was announced at a press conference held on 29 May 2025.
