Charges have been filed against an individual who has been arrested more than 50 times for multiple offenses.
The charges were forwarded for prosecution after a case unfolded where he entered a shop in the capital, Malé City and robbed the cashier at knifepoint.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has announced the completion of its investigation into an armed robbery at the ‘Parao’ shop near the Mahchangoalhi Cemetery. According to police, the suspect entered the store, threatened staff at knifepoint, and stole cash from the till.
The police institution added that the case was sent to the Prosecutor General's Office for prosecution on June 12.
MPS revealed that the suspect robbed the shop at around 03:13pm on May 1.
The suspect arrested in connection with the case is Fawaz Kalhuthuthu, 36, of H. Redhan, Malé City.
In connection with the case, the suspected was arrested under a court order on May 13. When he was presented before the court for a decision on his remand, the court ordered him to be remanded until the trial concludes.
The police also stated that the suspect, who was arrested in connection with the case, is a person who has been previously arrested 52 times for multiple other offenses.
