Broadcom’s IT Officer Fazeel also suspended

IT Officer of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) Mohamed Fazeel, has also been suspended from his position.

RaajjeMV understands that Fazeel has been suspended for a period of seven days.

Speaking to RaajjeMV on the condition of anonymity, a senior employee at Broadcom revealed that all commissioners and employees of the commission are well aware that Broadcom's server frequently goes down.

He also said that the electricity goes out two to three times a day, and that this is an unresolved issue that the commissioners have neglected.

The senior employee stated that IT Officer Fazeel works tirelessly on server issues two to three times a day, and that the server downtime on Wednesday occurred when employees were on strike and had gone home without working.

He further said that they had seen news reports that the police had assisted with the work related to Broadcom's server going down on Wednesday, and that it was unfortunate to suspend the IT Officer by connecting him to this issue. He also said that this was a very uncivilized act carried out to further demoralize and humiliate employees and to demonstrate the commissioners' power.

In addition to this, the source said that the commissioners are now working to summon Fazeel to the Maldives Police Service (MPS) to take a statement, and it is unfortunate that they still lack the ability to address employee concerns and resolve issues by talking to the staff.

The suspension of the IT Officer comes amid the recent suspension of the Broadcasting Commission’s Secretary General, Mariyam Zeeniya. Zeeniya was suspended for three days on May 21, following a commission meeting held the previous morning, where members cited ethical concerns.
