Aishath Mohamed, former Senior Public Prosecutor, has been appointed to the position of Deputy Prosecutor General at the Prosecutor General's Office.
Aishath Mohamed has been working at the Prosecutor General's Office since 14 December 2011. She is one of the longest-serving and most senior prosecutors in the Maldives.
In addition to this, Hussain Saamy, who was appointed to the position of Assistant Prosecutor General, is also a former Public Prosecutor. The Prosecutor General's Office has stated that Mahmood Saleem will continue to serve as Deputy Prosecutor General as before.
Aishath Mohamed has represented the state in numerous important cases. These include corruption cases and drug-related cases.
Hussain Saamy, who was appointed to the position of Assistant Prosecutor General, was appointed amid rumors of his involvement in the government's attempt to influence two Criminal Court judges in the case investigated by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) regarding the removal of Supreme Court justices.
