President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the youth who took to the streets to seek justice in connection with the incident where Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, 21, fell from H. Fentenoy are “caught in a political current”.
Speaking at the ceremony marking the 92nd anniversary of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) on Thursday night, the president said that even when considering the incident of Yumnu's fall, the biggest responsibility, in his opinion, and in the opinion of anyone who loves justice, should be taken by those who promoted the idea years ago that partying without fear is something that must be done.
Muizzu urged the public to open their eyes to the fact that those who encouraged young people to have fun and live as they please in their youth, saying that the boundaries, measures, principles, and standards set in our noble Islamic religion are not that important, are now coming out for political purposes and misusing the youth.
We need to open our eyes. Those youth went that way, pushed into a political current. It's because of the result of efforts to take the country away from the principles and rules of the noble Islamic religion that exists in this country, and the beautiful customs that exist among us, and to take it in a different direction. Using victimized youth to try to gain political advantage by drawing the beloved Maldivian people into this is not something that should be done. We need to be more aware than that. We need to be people who can distinguish between truth and falsehood. We should not be people who surrender our minds to whatever story someone tells when caught up in emotion and excitement. We need to think with our own minds. By thinking with our own minds, we need to become people who can determine truth and falsehood about matters for ourselves. We should not become slaves to various false stories spread by unknown people."

The president said that making good use of the intellect humans have been blessed with, is not an option, a choice, or a responsibility, but an obligation. He also said that the people of the Maldives are Muslims and that this is a 100 percent Islamic country.
Therefore, he said that when the day comes for each of us to be questioned and held accountable, if we have not made good use of our intellect, we will have no answer to give on that day.
The president said that we need to resolve not to let whatever story someone tells become something that we accept into our minds. He said that this is a great good we can do for ourselves, our children, our friends, our neighbors, and the whole society. The president also said that this would be the biggest help that can be given to the police in carrying out their service as well.
