Protesters have demanded an apology from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and made 10 additional demands from the government.
During the protest that took place on the streets of capital Malé City on Friday night calling for justice for Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, 21, the protesters made several demands to the government.
The protesters said that they will continue the protests until justice is served. A large crowd of youth who participated in the protest called for the resignation of government officials and demanded justice for all those who have not received it.
It is noted that the number of youths is increasing every night in these protests.
Following the disclosure of extensive information about the incident by an account on social media platform X known as ‘Hassan Kurusee’, the government and institutions have come under fire and public scrutiny, with the public continuing to slam authorities for negligence and delay in serving justice.
Yumnu was discovered on the roof of a house adjacent to H. Fentenoy on the morning of April 18, severely injured and reportedly left for dead by a group of young adults she had been with earlier that day. According to police, seven individuals were involved in the incident. Authorities have taken action against two of them who held government positions, including the arrest of one suspect in connection with Yumnu’s fall.
