Izdiyaan Mohamed Maumoon has been dismissed from his position as Under Secretary for Strategic Communication at the President's Office, and Daud Ahmed has been suspended from his position as Under Secretary for Digital Strategy, following allegations of partying under the influence.
On Thursday, Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Heena Waleed said that Izdiyaan, who held the position of Under Secretary for Strategic Communication at the President's Office, has been dismissed from his position. However, Heena did not specify the exact reason for the dismissal.
In addition to this, Heena stated that Daud, who held the position of Under Secretary for Digital Strategy at the President's Office, has been suspended from the position without pay. She also mentioned that following Daud’s submission of resignation from his position as the President of the "National Youth Advisory Committee", he has been removed from the committee as well.
The action against Izdiyaan and Daud, who are accused of partying under the influence, comes at a time several members of the public are alleging that they were influencing the incident where 21-year-old Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed fell from a stairwell window on an upper floor of H. Fentenoy.
Following the disclosure of essential information related to the incident by social media platform ‘X’ account Hassan Kurusee, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) stated in a press conference held on the night of April 22, that seven other people were with Yumnu that night, comprising a total of three women and five men.
They are to have gone to a house in central Malé City around 12:30am on Wednesday. They left the house around 3:40am. After that, four of them went to a house on Ameenee Magu around 4am, according to the police. The house in central Malé is Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen's house, M. Maandhoogedhekunuge. However, the police have kept the information confidential.
Many people are criticizing the police's statement that Yumnu “jumped on her own”. Further, while the police have publicized the name and address of the female involved in the incident, they did not disclose any details of the other individuals involved until Thursday.
On Wednesday night, a large group of young adults gathered near the Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building, calling for justice.
