A large number of employees have begun expressing concerns, claiming that Villa Group resorts have failed to settle service charges for two months.

According to the employees, they have not received the service charge wages that was due in February and March of 2025.

Regarding the issue, MP for Kendhoo constituency Mauroof Zakir shared a post on social media tagging the leader of the Jumhooree Party (JP) and MP for Maamigili constituency Gasim Ibrahim, stating that complaints are still surfacing about Villa resorts not paying the service charges for February and Marc, to their workers.

He also highlighted that perhaps MP Gasim was unaware of this, reminding him to resolve the issue, and stating that delaying payment for work done is not acceptable under any circumstances.

MP Mauroof had previously called for protests if Villa Group resorts fail to pay service charges to their workers.

Regarding the issue, MP Mauroof shared a post on social media at the time stating that even during the recent fasting month of Ramadan, workers at Villa Group resorts were unable to meet their essential needs and settle their bills due to the non-payment of two months' service charges.

Shedding light on the numerous difficulties surfacing due to the withheld service charges that workers are entitled to, MP Mauroof stressed that this was a common issue facing the employees working at these resorts.

MP Mauroof has also called for the service charges to be settled to employees without a single day's delay.

While Villa Group, owned by the MP for Maamigili constituency and leader of the JP operates many resorts in the Maldives, the issue of not providing adequate salaries and service charges to employees continues to surface from time to time.
