MVR 500,000 from Maldives’ Zakat funds support Gaza families

The government of Maldives has provided MVR 500,000 worth of food supplies to families in Gaza from this year's Zakat al-Fitr funds.
The government decided to donate MVR 500,000 from this year's Zakat al-Fitr funds to the bereaved families in Gaza, Palestine. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs carried out this work in collaboration with the ISRA Association.
The ministry has shared a video on social media showing the distribution of food packages sent to the Palestinian people on behalf of the Maldivian people. These packages are labeled as aid provided to the Palestinian people from the Maldives.
Regarding the effort, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed revealed that the half a million Maldivian Rufiyaa worth of food supplies sent to families in Gaza who are suffering from hunger and heat, from the Zakat al-Fitr entrusted by Maldivian citizens to the Zakat House, has reached its destination.
According to statistics released by the Islamic Ministry, a total of MVR 13,264,819 was received as Zakat al-Fitr in monetary form this year. A total of 2,765 are registered as poor in the Maldives. MVR 4,500 was deposited for individuals registered as poor, for the year 1446. This means that MVR 12.4 million was distributed as Zakat al-Fitr this year.
