Former Managing Director of State Trading Organization (STO), Hussain Amru, has asserted that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu wants to establish a communist regime in the Maldives.
Speaking on RaajjeTV's "TV Talk" programme, Amru said that President Muizzu wants to establish a communist regime in the island nation and that he doesn't know how to act in a way that is not in line with that principle.
Noting that the Muizzu administration promotes nationalism, Amru said that this is something that is done extensively in communist countries. He also said that although there isn't much military power, they are working to show the people that they have power.
Referring to the economic situation of the Maldives, Amru said that at a time the country’s economy is on a downward spiral, the government has been spending excessively, and the government is also working to enrich itself. He added that, like communist countries, the Muizzu administration is working to have the government do everything in the country, which he said is done to impoverish the people.
Amru said that the government wants to create a state of poverty for the country's citizens and then keep them in that state with government handouts. He said that this characteristic is gradually being introduced now.
