Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has revealed that the young couple burned in the fire incident in Rasdhoo island of Alif Alif atoll are being treated under the instructions of a foreign doctor.

According to IGMH, the couple is being treated by a team of Maldivian doctors. IGMH has stated that the condition of the young couple that sustained severe burn injuries in a house fire in Rasdhoo, is still extremely critical.

In addition to this, the hospital has revealed that on March 27, treatment arrangements were made for the couple through a "burn specialist". The specialist was brought to the Maldives and spent one day in the country to proceed with the treatment, as disclosed by the hospital.

Speaking to RaajjeMV previously, an IGMH media official highlighted that the condition of the couple, both 31, rushed to the hospital with severe burn injuries is still very critical, and it's not yet possible to say if there has been any improvement in their condition. The official also noted that both individuals are being treated on ventilators.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) received the report of the fire incident at 11:15pm on March 24.

Although they were brought to the capital Malé City for emergency treatment that night, some media outlets have reported, citing the family, that they were not given privacy in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), claiming there was “no space”. The family also stressed, quoting doctors, that with 83 percent of the woman's body and 78 percent of the man's body burned, survival is unlikely.

According to information received, the couple has a five-year-old child. However, the child was not in the room at the time of the fire incident. The cause of the fire incident remains unclear.

However, further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
