MP for Gadhdhoo constituency Mohamed Ali, who belongs to the main ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), has warned that it is mandatory for those employed in government companies and institutions to cooperate with the government if they wish to hold on to their positions.
The lawmaker made these statements in messages sent to a group that includes employees from the Gadhdhoo constituency who were appointed to government companies and institutions.
Screenshots of the warning sent by the PNC lawmaker to the employee group have since been circulating on social media.
In the group, the PNC lawmaker expressed his dissatisfaction, writing that the level of participation of these individuals in PNC activities has decreased recently, and that the cooperation from said employees towards the government, has also weakened.
The PNC lawmaker went on to emphasize that the employees in the group are newly hired and that he has been closely observing everyone's actions over the past days. The PNC lawmaker’s message also stated that he has clearly seen the response rate when calls for membership are made.
Further, the PNC lawmaker’s message stated that all parties were given jobs on the agreement that they would provide political and other forms of support to the government.
In addition to this, he requested that those who cannot cooperate with government affairs inform him, stressing that many people do not provide cooperation after securing jobs.
The PNC lawmaker also stated that every SOE is a place for political work. He said that many of the people given jobs cannot promote the government by posting on social media.
After saying this, the PNC lawmaker noted that in the future, jobs will only be given to those who provide political support.
In addition to the PNC lawmaker, there have been reports of other parliamentarians belonging to the main ruling party threatening government company employees with termination.
