The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has revealed that the work on Ras Malé, which is being developed by reclaiming Fushidhiggaru Lagoon, is progressing, and that 52.15 hectares of land have been reclaimed so far under the project's reclamation component.

According to information shared by HDC with state media, as of March 9, 52.15 hectares of land have been reclaimed and completed from areas including "Area D, F, G, and L". HDC also stated that 29 hectares of land in "Area J" have been reclaimed.

In addition to this, HDC said that a total of 378 hectares of land will be reclaimed from these areas.

The work on the project initially began on 18 December 2023. However, shortly after the project was mobilized, the work was halted. Then again, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that the practical work of many housing projects would begin, and Ras Malé would be reclaimed and completed this year, while delivering the Presidential Address at the inaugural sitting of the People's Majlis for this year on 6 February 2025.

It has been decided to reclaim a large area of 1,153 hectares from Fushidhiggaru Lagoon, which is being developed under the name of Ras Malé.
