Suspended Supreme Court Judge Dr. Azmiralda Zahir has denied the allegations pinned against her by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
The allegation against Azmiralda is that she exerted influence over judges of the Criminal Court.
In this regard, it has been alleged that when her husband Dr. Ismail Latheef was arrested in 2024 and brought before the Criminal Court for a detention hearing, she influenced the judges of the court to release him from detention.
In connection with the case, she was summoned to the JSC at 10am on Tuesday. While responding to the case, Dr. Azmiralda noted that there is no basis to these allegations. Dr. Azmiralda has requested that the hearing regarding the allegations against her be conducted openly for the public to see. However, that opportunity was not granted.
In a statement previously released by her lawyers regarding the case, it was stated that on 26 February 2025, Azmiralda was suspended, and on the same day, the Judicial Service Commission had informed that they had decided to investigate a disciplinary case against her. They stated that these cases are situations created without any basis or foundation to interfere with and influence the work of judges.
