An operation has commenced, and raids have begun despite the cancellation of the statement publicized by authorities regarding the operation.
On Monday night, officers of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) abruptly announced on social media that based on information received by the Police Intelligence Unit, a special operation related to national security was being conducted in the capital Malé region jointly by the police institution and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). Police published this statement on social media at around 10:35pm.
A few minutes later at around 10:56pm, it was stated in the police media group that the statement previously shared on social media platform ‘X’ had been temporarily removed as sensitive details were being verified. It was also stated that since the police is an institution that provides accurate and reliable information, further updates would be shared with the media once details are confirmed.
However, police are continuing to search three areas in Malé and a Vinares tower in Hulhumalé Phase II. A house in the Raalhugandu area of Malé and a house near Galolhu Stadium are also being searched.
In addition to this, a pickup truck was stopped near the Republic Square, and an individual was taken into custody.
Despite repeated inquiries, the police did not provide any information regarding the matter.
