The Maldives Food and Drug Authority has been re-established.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu re-established the authority on Friday.
The Maldives Food and Drug Authority was re-established under Section 8(a) of the Food Safety Act of Maldives.
FDA has been designated as an authority under the purview of the Ministry of Health.
According to the President’s Office, the establishment of the Maldives Food and Drug Authority means that the FDA which was under the Ministry of Health previously has been dissolved.
The government went on to reveal that the all correspondence addressed to FDA must use the number 182 in the numbering system for state agencies.
The Food Safety Act came into effect on Friday.
The authority has been empowered to impose fines and confiscate licenses of persons and establishments that violate the norms clarified in the Food Safety Act.
In addition to this, the law empowers FDA to publicize information of these establishments.
