Malé City Council brings pumps, gov’t attempts to claim credit
Malé City Council brought in powerful water pumps to address the city's flooding problem and spent MVR three million on them, yet the government claimed credit for providing the pumps
The mayor stated that the highest priority has been given to solving the flooding issue which has persisted for 40 years, and the public does not wish to continue enduring this hardship
There is a disagreement between Malé City Council and the government regarding who should take credit for addressing the flooding issue in Malé

After the Malé City Council brought pumps to solve the flooding issue in the capital Malé City, the incumbent administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has attempted to claim credit for it.

The pumps brought by the Malé City Council are now set up and operational.

The City Council has stated that these pumps discharge water at 10 times the power of commonly used pumps.

The council has also stated that work must be suspended periodically when debris gets caught in the water intake pipes of commonly used pumps.

Due to continuous heavy rainfall on Saturday night, these pumps were used to drain water that had flooded houses in the capital city.

However, the government has advocated that they have solved Malé City's flooding issue by claiming that these pumps were brought in by the government.

Senior government officials have portrayed that the government provided the budget to procure water drainage pumps, characterizing it as the benevolence of the president. Speaking to RaajjeMV, Malé City Mayor Adam Azim revealed that these pumps were procured after including and passing it in the council's budget.

He said that MVR three million was spent on bringing the two pumps. The mayor said he doesn't understand why the government is taking credit for it. The mayor further stated that the highest priority has been given to solving the flooding issue in the capital city. Azim also said that since it is a major issue that has persisted for 40 years, the public does not wish to continue enduring this hardship.
