Muhamma, who owes MVR 5.2m in loans to BML, slapped with court order to pay MVR 83,000 monthly

The Civil Court has ordered Mohamed “Muhamma” Abdulla, who was recently appointed as a member of the Broadcasting Commission of Maldives (Broadcom), to pay a minimum of MVR 83,000 per month for an unpaid loan he attained from the Bank of Maldives (BML).
The Civil Court issued the ruling on Thursday.
The court ordered the Broadcom member, who has previously served as a lawmaker at the People's Majlis, to pay the amount following a case filed by the country’s national bank due to his failure to make payments according to the loan agreement.
In the ruling, the Civil Court ordered Mohamed to pay a minimum of MVR 83,000 per month to settle the loan he had taken.
As of February 4, he owed MVR 5.2 million to BML, and in addition to this amount, he has also been ordered to pay interest and penalty fees.
The Civil Court has ordered him to complete the payment of the owed amount by May 2036.
In connection with the case, the bank had requested permission to sell H. Furaathu, which Mohamed had mortgaged for the loan.
However, as he agreed to pay the debt, the bank has requested at court to give him an opportunity to repay the money. According to the Civil Court's ruling, Mohamed has also requested to pay and settle the amount on a monthly basis.
