The government has confirmed that only the forms of 4,000 people who received flats under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme will be verified next.
The government revealed this during a press conference held at the President's Office on Tuesday, a year after announcing that the authenticity of the flat list would be verified.
Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib provided information to journalists at the presser.
The housing minister highlighted that it has been decided not to verify the forms of everyone who applied for the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme, and that only the forms of 4,000 people who received flats will be verified.
He also revealed that the authenticity of the forms will be verified only according to the flat allocation policy and the instructions given on the Gedhoruverin portal. Therefore, if any additional documents other than those specified in the form have been submitted, they will not be considered during the verification process.
The housing minister noted that during the verification process, they will refer to the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme flat allocation policy G20/2022 gazetted on 26 June 2022, and the instructions provided on the Gedhoruverin portal prepared for application submission.
The housing minister said that during the verification phase of the flat list's authenticity, since no mention was made of any interruption in the duration of residence in the capital Malé City, such an interruption would be considered only if it lasted for more than one year.
According to the minister, the decision was made with the intention of providing opportunities to as many people as possible from the list, considering that some individuals might not meet the criteria due to interruptions in their duration of residence in Malé.
The previous government determined that 15,046 people out of those who applied for the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme met the criteria. The former administration of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) decided to provide flats to all of them, stating that the first 4,000 completed flats would be handed over to those who scored the highest marks among them.
