The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has decided to print and issue a new MVR 100 note.
According to the central bank of Maldives, they are printing new MVR 100 notes. They have stated that the note will include the current Maldivian Rufiyaa symbol.
MMA has also stated that the newly printed MVR 100 note will be in circulation from 19 January 2025.
MMA has said that along with this note, the currently used MVR 100 note will also continue to circulate.
The newly printed MVR 100 note features the Maldivian Rufiyaa symbol on both sides of the note, and it is signed by the former governor, Ali Hashim.
The Gregorian date on the new note is 7 July 2024. The Hijri date is 1 Muharram 1446.
While MMA has decided to use the newly printed note along with the previously used note, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has repeatedly asserted that his government will not print new money.
